Thirteen Reason Why (Guided Response)
I can't even begin to describe my thoughts on Hannah's story. Typically when you read of someone committing suicide the people that person came in contact with some way or the other never really expects to get tapes in the mail and maps placed near or around their lockers. In a way I feel kind of angry about the tapes because if you felt close to the friend that this happened to, and all of a sudden you figure out your part of the reason, I would feel solely responsible even though other people were mentioned I would keep thinking "Why couldn't they come to me?" or "Why wouldn't they just have said something at that time?" On the other hand some of her friends might find it reassurring in a way that I was at least getting some kind of explaination instead of always wondering "Why?" Some people aren't as strong as others and when you put them into a category as to why you did this horrendous act to end your life, that is a very powerful situation. Their maybe tons of people on the list but to some they may only see themselves and may feel they need to end their life as well to make up for their friends loss. So in one way you could end up having more suicides on your hands or you could be shedding somekind of closure on the horrifying act, that's when you take a risk. If one of my friends or someone I had come in contact with and knew fairly well all of a sudden one day decided to kill themselves I would feel hurt, pain, and responsibility. I feel once you become friends with someone you owe them the comfort of being able to come to you for support and conversation. So if my friend didn't come and talk to me and one day I see a box delivered at my house with tapes inside with her voice on it, first I would completely freak out and think I was being haunted and two I wouldn't know what to expect because you just can't prepare yourself for something like this to come along. I don't really know what to expect next but I guess that's the whole point. I'm very intrigued with this book!

Very thoughtful post, Erika. You're done some excellent character analysis here.
